FREE-MASSONERY in andorra
Freemasonry is active in Andorra, however there are no monuments or heritage sites specifically dedicated to this Institution in the country. Masonic activities take place mainly in the two existing Temples, which are not accessible to the general public.
Andorran masons have encountered difficulties throughout history, and they have had to work discreetly and hidden from the eyes of the powers that have harmed freedom in art and science.
On May 9, 1996, the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons of California, represented by Grand Master Charles H. Alexander, authorized Douglas Lemons, Past Grand Master of California, to assist and be his emissary at the Consecration of the Regular Grand Lodge of Andorra (« Gran Lògia Regular d’Andorra »). The ceremony took place in the Principality of Monaco, due to the difficulties encountered.
On June 1, 1996, the Regular Grand Lodge of Andorra was consecrated, with the help of the Brothers of the United States, in the Principality of Monaco. The act of consecration was followed by the installation of its Grand Master Llorenç Lluell, in a separate ceremony presided over by SGC Fred Kleinknecht of the Supreme Council of the 33rd Southern Jurisdiction, United States (Washington), accompanied by the PGM of the GL of California, SGC Douglas Lemons, a specialist of the Scottish Rite, the representative of the Grand Council for the Northern United States, Arnold Hermann, and also the Grand Inspector for Europe, Elvio Sciubba. Similarly, the Supreme Council of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite for Andorra was installed, thus appointing Llorenç Lluell as Sovereign Grand Commander. The latter received the Legion of Honor from the SC of Washington.
On February 19, 1997, at the Conference of Grand Masters of North America, in Tulsa (Oklahoma, USA), a committee of the newly created Regular Grand Lodge of Andorra in Monaco went to the United States to take stock of the situation and request the recognition of the Committee for the Recognition of the GGLL of the world.
