A temporary exhibition in which the art of caricature engages with the major themes of our permanent collection.
Through ten remarkable caricatures from the satirical newspaper *Le Frondeur* (1868–1869), discover a biting world populated by voluptuous monks, hypocritical clergy and lazy politicians.
Produced against the turbulent backdrop of the nineteenth century by the liberal, anti-clerical bourgeoisie associated with the Leuven-based lodge La Constance, these fascinating images take a humorous and daring swipe at the power of the Church and the political tensions of their time.
This exhibition invites you to decipher a rich and surprising iconography, whilst drawing captivating links with the objects and ideas presented in the museum’s permanent collection.
Combining satire, history and a critical view of society, enjoy a unique experience that sheds light on the past with surprising modernity. A unique opportunity to discover rare, funny and biting works that will leave no one indifferent.
